Course Overview:

As a CI® Certified Building Contaminant Technician (Remediator) student, you will receive in-depth education and meaningful hands-on training in the fast growing field of Indoor Air Quality, Mold Remediation, and Water Damaged Buildings. At the completion of our course, you will have gained the knowledge to evaluate and remediate mold contamination and water damage, as well as other often overlooked indoor air pollutants. Our program will provide training in the critical area of ensuring proper air quality and ventilation specific to Florida's environmental conditions. Proper containment, Personal Protective Equipment, and worker safety will be covered in addition to Methods for Efficient Waterproofing, Fenestration, Building Envelope failures and Leak Prevention The legal aspects, risk management, and regulations related to each topic will also be reviewed.

This course is approved by the DBPR as a 30 hour Pre-licensure course for the Mold Remediator license recently created for the State of Florida. Upon completion, the student will be able to apply to the DBPR for a Mold Remediators license under the Grandfathering Provision. CI® Certified Building Contaminant Technician (Remediator) ACICP.org Membership Requirements:

Although any Licensed Contractor or an employee of their company may attend our CI® Certified Courses and receive a certificate of Completion & Continuing Education Credit (if applicable), in order to obtain the CI® Certified Designation, the following prerequisites must be met:

  1. Prior to acceptance into the ACICP, CI®-BCT Candidates must possess minimum experience or possess one of the following: Any Florida State Certified or Registered contractor license, an International Code Council 1 and 2 Family Dwelling Inspector Certification, or other ICC Inspector or Plans Examiner Certification, Florida Standard Certificate issued through the Building Code and Inspectors Board, an Architect’s license, an Engineer’s license, any license in compliance with NASCLA Standards for Construction Categories, Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a Construction related field, or 10 years of construction field experience as a Supervisor, Project Manager, Superintendent, or equivalent.

  2. Prior to receiving Membership in the ACICP, the candidate will be required to attend the CI® Certified Building Contaminant Technician (Remediator) course, complete all course requirements, and achieve a score of 75% or greater on the specialized CI® Certified Building Contaminant Technician Examination administered by the ACICP.

If you meet the eligibility requirements above, you qualify for the Florida "Grandfather Provision" into Mold Remediation licensure:

  • Step 1 - Obtain 30 hours of education in Mold Remediation (CI-BCT Course)
  • Step 2 - Pass a 'proctored' examination (administered by the ACICP)
  • Step 3 - Obtain membership in a state association (ACICP.ORG)
  • Step 4 - Apply to the state of Florida under the 'grandfather provision' of this license

  • Introduction to Moisture Migration and Humidity
  • Energy Management and Fenestration
  • Biocides, Chemicals, Encapsulates and Enzymes
  • UV Technologies and Ozone Generators
  • Estimating a Remediation Project
  • How to Specify and Use Sealants, Coatings and Moisture Barriers
  • Exterior Cladding and Siding - Correct Installation Details
  • New and Remedial Window Flashing Details

Course Cost:

The Fee for this Course is $495, which includes; 3 days (30 hours) of classroom instruction with the CI® Certified Instruction staff (classroom instruction also counts for your Continuing Education credits for the upcoming renewal cycle-see above approval information), your CI® Certified Building Contaminant Technician (Remediator) Reference Manual, your CI® Certified BCT Examination, 2 Year Membership into the Association of Construction Industry Certified Professionals and Lunch for all three days.
